Transduction is the conversion from one form of energy to another.

• [microphones] are input transducers: acoustic to electrical energy
• [loudspeakers] are output transducers: electrical to acoustic energy

In this case, "electrical energy" refers to [electrical-current], while "acoustic energy" refers to [sound-waves]
