Magnetophon

The Magnetophon is an early [magnetic recording] device invented by AEG (German electric company) in 1935.

• plastic tape coated in iron particles
• simplified audio editing via cutting and splicing
• significant use in radio broadcast and concert recording

The Magnetophon and its associated technology was kept secret until the end of WWII.
